My name is Ben Sowden, from Gravesend, Kent and a member of Dartford Road Runners. I’m a runner, I love running and love talking and writing about running. I am also a keen cyclist and enjoy a challenge. I wanted to start my blog to share my sporting challenges and my experiences.
In May 2015 I became a Dad to our first son, Rory Teddy Sowden, who was sadly born asleep at 36 weeks & 4 days. I am also going to use my blog to share our story and talk about our beautiful Son.
In Rory’s memory I’m planning to take on a number of challenges to raise awareness of stillbirth and much needed funds for SANDs (Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Charity).
We have since gone on to have our Rainbow, Rory’s younger brother, Henry Rupert Sowden, born on 27th December 2017 at 36 weeks and 3 days.

Hi Ben, I just stumbled on your blog post. The legacy you are building for Rory is commendable and as someone who’s used Sands as a lifeline for the last 2 years, thank you for giving back.

Thank you for your comments. Myself and My wife has received so much support from our Local SAND’s group, it’s the only place we feel ‘normal’ and a place that we can feel comfortable to talk about our feelings without be judged by anyone. In Rory’s legacy I have recently completed befriender training with Sands and hopefully will be able to support others. I’m so sorry for the loss of your son, can I ask what did you name him? I totally understand if you wish to keep this information private.

I don’t know how I hadn’t stumbled on your blog sooner but I’m glad I found it, have just shared it with my other half too as there are so few Dad’s who share their story. Our son’s name is Caspian. Funnily enough we are very local to you (just outside of Dartford!) but I did my befriender training to help the SELondon group. I’m sure through Rory’s legacy you will help so many families, it really is a worthwhile cause, well done!
